          BMW X5 Off-Road Capabilities

The new 2020 BMW X5 is built with more off-roading capabilities than ever before. The optional off-roading package includes different modes for handling various road conditions and has a new rear-locking differential.

The camera system feeds helpful information so drivers know what's ahead of them on the trail. Add the visual technology to features like hill descent control and you've got one impressive machine capable of handling any terrain with ease.

Mercedes is better known for its comfortable ride as opposed to its off-roading capabilities, but the brand made major changes to the new GLE to be able to better compete with its rivals.

The massive horsepower, torque, and AWD means you can take this luxury vehicle just about anywhere. With that being said, the fact remains that when people think of good off-road SUVs, Mercedes-Benz is not the first name that comes to mind.

           BMW X5 Standard Features

There's no denying that the new X5 is a head-turner. For starters, the body has a number of redesigned elements that make it look more athletic and contemporary (reshaped front and rear fascia with sleek adaptive LED headlights, wrap-around taillights, and curvier wheel arches).

In addition to the impressive styling, the new X5 is even bigger than before - the length, width, and wheelbase have all been slightly enlarged to provide more interior space.

Talking about exteriors, check this out - the 2020 Mercedes GLE Class can be configured to suit the needs of just about anyone looking for a luxury SUV or sedan. How come? Simple, this vehicle can actually be an SUV or a coupe. The coupe version is basically the same vehicle with some altered lines and a trunk instead of the SUV cargo space.

           BMW X5 Acceleration

When people describe BMW X5's acceleration they often use the word spunky. Whether you are driving the xDrive40i with its I-6 (which is capable of producing 335 hp and 336 lb-ft of torque) or the V8-powered xDrive50i (which garners a stellar 456 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque), you will find that the X5 has more than enough power.

To maximize acceleration, flip it into Sport mode, and this will get the Beemer from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds, an impressive speed for a vehicle of this size.

GLE Class base model is equipped with a 2.0-liter, inline 4-cylinder, turbo engine. However, if you want a boost in power, you need to check out the 3.0-liter, I-6, turbocharged engine (362 horsepower and 369 pounds-feet of torque), getting you from 0 to 60 in just 5.5 seconds.

           BMW X5 Standard Features

The 2020 BMW X5 is comes loaded with plenty of standard features that make it the more attractive choice among those in the market for a new SUV. The base trim comes with a HiFi 10-speaker sound system, HD radio, BMW Connected Drive services, rear-view camera, power tailgate, engine stop-start, parking distance control, and a panoramic moon roof.

Mercedes GLE Class has a lot to offer in this department, too - cruise control, rear view camera, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, interior air filtration and universal remote transmitter (for garage door, security system, etc.) are just a few of the features that come standard.

           BMW X5 Infotainment System

The all-new 2020 BMW X5 debuts the brand's latest-generation Operating System, called 7.0 and combines it with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system which is a 12.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital display in place of analogue dials.

It can be controlled via the iDrive controller on the center console, the touchscreen, steering wheel, voice control, and even comes with gesture control functionality.

The standard sound system of the new X5 is a 10-speaker system which has produces a clean sound but you can go further and add a Bowers & Wilkins system with 24 speakers and a 1500-watt amplifier for the ultimate in-car concert experience.

The new Mercedes GLE Class comes equipped with a modern infotainment system that is intuitive and easy to use. CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is available. You can also connect devices via Bluetooth technology or by USB port.

Harman Kardon premium sound system pumps out tunes with crystal-clear sound and plenty of volume. In addition, you can also get an eight-speaker, surround-sound system and a large touchscreen to display information.

          BMW X5 Cargo Space

The new BMW X5's cargo space is quite generous and well-designed. The cargo area offers 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats in place. To max it out, fold the rear seats down to get 72.3 cubic feet of cargo space. The power split tailgate allows for easy access to the cargo area. The anti-slip rails that make the space more accommodating.

The 2020 Mercedes GLE Class has plenty to offer, too. The coupe model has about as much cargo space as your average mid-sized sedan. The crossover SUV, however, steals the show. With all of the seats in their default positions, you get around 38.2 cubic-feet of storage space; fold the seats down and the cargo area expands to an impressive 80.3 cubic-feet of space.

          BMW X5 Safety Features

The list of the new BMW X5 safety features is both long and impressive. Since we don't have all day, I am going to mention just a few of them - Active Protection System (which detects, prevents, and prepares for possible collisions), Fatigue and Focus alert (which detects and alerts when it senses the driver becoming sleepy or distracted), Assist eCall system, an impact sensor, a roll-over sensor, and the Active Driving Assistance suite (which bundles advanced driver aids like lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring). Impressive, I know.

Mercedes puts the safety of its drivers and passengers first. A forward-collision detection system is standard for all models. You also get front, side and driver's-knee airbags.

Additionally, there's a system that monitors driver alertness and warns you if you appear to be nodding off and a rear-view camera helps you to safely back up and to better see what's behind you as you drive. A 360-degree view camera is available as an upgrade.

           BMW X5 Conclusion

Both Mercedes GLE and Class and BMW X5 are excellent vehicles, no doubt about that. BMW's MSRP is $60,700 vs $55,700 for the GLE Class. If you want to save a couple thousand dollars, the SUV by Mercedes-Benz is a fair choice.

However, the $5000 difference can be easily made up by the fact that the BMW gets better mileage (20 city/26 highway vs 17city/23 highway). In addition, BMW X5 comes packed with more features, so in the end you get more for your money which makes the Beemer the better buy.
