The BMW 3 Series is the reason we are all here in the first place. Following in the footsteps of BMW's legendary 70's era model 2002 Sport Coupe, the brand from Bavaria introduced the new 3 Series, which essentially created the Sports Sedan segment. The latest version of this legendary Ultimate Driving Machine is a result of years of engineering and technological improvements that will no doubt have you taking the long way home.

But at the end of the day, and in order to keep your BMW of Wyoming Valley 3 Series at the top of its game, it does need to receive regular service. To that end, BMW has detailed service schedules that will insure your BMW stays a BMW.

Sure, nobody likes going in for service, but honestly there's not a lot of service for you to do anyway. Why not leave that to our BMW-certified mechanics who are eager to fix your car and get you right back out there? In the meantime, relax in the comfortable Wyoming Valley service waiting area where you can enjoy a beverage, read a book, watch television or surf the web.

BMW maintenance schedules are divided into mileage increments. Designed to keep track of what is used most on your BMW these maintenance schedules monitor items on your BMW 3 Series that get used up first, so they can be replaced or refreshed as needed.

The factory certified mechanics at BMW of Wyoming Valley recommend a synthetic oil and oil filter change that will occur no later than 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. At the same 10,000 mileage interval, they will examine the cooling system and replace the coolant.

After that, it's time for a complete multi-point inspection that examines suspension components, steering, brakes pads and more before finally topping off the fluids. Finally, the technician will check to make sure there are no outstanding service campaigns or recall notices.

But what if you tend to push your BMW 3 more than the average driver? That's okay because BMW has a service schedule for you too. If your driving habits take you along on mountainous excursions or through arid, dry regions, or in heavy stop and go traffic, we recommend changing your oil and filter every 5,000 miles instead rather than the normal 10,000 mile interval.

The same thing with tire rotations: you should have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles to allow each tire to wear evenly around the vehicle. This is done to equalize the tire wear around the car in order to get the longest life possible from a set of tires.

At 20,000 miles, the same schedule repeats itself, from the oil change to the tire rotation and so on. Once again, you should take into consideration any extreme driving conditions you may subject your 3 Series to.

Between 20,000 and 40,000 miles, the Service Technicians at BMW of Wyoming Valley recommend replacing your fuel filter. Split the difference at 30,000 miles, if you like, but please don't forget the oil and filter changes that are critical and should occur at the same time.

The 30,000-mile service isn't just for an oil and filter change. It is also time to check the brake pads and replace the brake fluid on your Wyoming Valley BMW 3 Series. According to the 3 Series service instructions, the first brake fluid service should occur at 30,000 miles. Subsequent brake services should occur every 30,000 miles.

Sixty-thousand miles is quiet the milestone in a BMW 3 Series' life. It's just a sign that your Wyoming Valley 3 Series is just getting through its break-in period. At this point, your BMW service mechanic will change the fuel filters, the engine air filter, spark plugs and more, so that your BMW will continue to run like new! When finished, your technician will top off the fluid levels, perform a multi-point inspection, check that the suspension is up to specifications, and that your BMW 3 Series has been restored to its original factory specifications.

At these and other service intervals, your BMW of Wyoming Valley mechanics will inspect the drive boots, brake fluid levels, fuel lines, in-cabin air filters, the operation of the cooling system, the engine air filter, check for coolant leaks, and perform a complete inspection of steering, exhaust and suspension components, and finally a reset of all maintenance and warning lights.

An all-wheel-alignment service is another critical service that should be performed on your BMW 3 Series at least once a year.  Performed by your BMW of Wyoming Valley service experts, it's like taking your car to an automotive chiropractor for an adjustment. But how can you tell your 3 Series is in need of such? Simple: If it feels your "3" is drifting left or right, even though you are trying to keep it on the straight and narrow, that's probably a good bet that you are due for a realignment. Don't fret. It can happen in a number of ways including hitting a pothole or some other obstruction that you just couldn't avoid. But some advice, before sending your BMW 3 Series off to the alignment rack: Please make sure to have your tires rotated first before an alignment service is performed, to guarantee equal wear at all four corners. Your BMW 3 Series owner's manual will have more information.

Speaking of Tires: Worn tires on your BMW are basically useless if they don't have enough tread or are not properly inflated. That's why it's so important they are checked on a monthly basis. But best of all, it's so cheap, even you can do it. All that you need is a crisp Lincoln penny. Place President Lincoln head first into the tread on your BMW 3 Series. If the tread covers "Ole Abe's" ears, you have adequate tread remaining. If any air above the president's head remains, then it's time for an immediate change. Bald is best on eagles, all babies and some old men, but not your tires. Our BMW Parts department has just the replacement tires you need for your BMW 3 Series, all at competitive market prices.

There's still more! Windshield wipers get short shrift because, well, just because. But they are critical safety devices, too. That's why we think you should change them ever six months or so. The problem is they reside in the open, where the high heat and humidity of summer and the extreme cold of winter can have their way with them. While the high heat and UV rays will cause the blades to deteriorate, the brittle cold can cause them to break. Take your pick, either way, they will not work. A quick stop at the BMW of Wyoming Valley Parts and Service department can outfit you with a new set of factory-approved replacements that will have your BMW 3 Series windshield sparkling again.
