The 7 Series is the flagship of the fleet from Bayerische Motoren Werke, or as we say here in America, BMW. It's large and in charge, as you would expect from a vehicle that would be just as likely to carry a German chancellor as it would a family heading to the country club.

Available in a variety of styles with differing powerplants including a turbocharged six-cylinder, V8, V12, and Plug-in Hybrid versions. As elegant and refined as it is, it still requires its owner to make sure it is properly serviced and maintained.

To help with that effort, BMW has compiled a list of service schedules that will see your BMW 7 Series from BMW of Wyoming Valley continues to perform like the Ultimate Driving Machine that it is. By bringing your 7 Series to our service department, you can rest assured the factory-certified mechanics will perform the proper protocols in making sure your BMW 7 Series remains true to its mission.

If you choose to drop your BMW 7 Series off, that's fine. If you choose to wait, that's fine as well. Be sure to take advantage of our comfortable Wyoming Valley Service waiting area, where you can watch television, read a book, enjoy a beverage or surf the web via our complimentary Wi-Fi.

Technologically advanced, your BMW 7 Series uses Condition Based Service (CBS) sensors and algorithms to monitor the condition of oil and other crucial fluids. The system also monitors engine revolutions and can determine if you have driven in stop and go traffic or dusty, dry regions, and judges the expected life remaining before items like air filters and coolants need changing. When a particular item needs inspection and replacement, an alert shows on your dashboard telling you it's time for a change.

Motor Oil: Critical to the smooth operation of your BMW of Wyoming Valley 7 Series, motor oils are probably the most important fluid, next to gasoline, inside your BMW 7. While using conventional motor oil is perfectly fine, you should make a concerted effort to change it and its oil filter every 5,000 miles.

Going further, though, BMW and our Wyoming Valley BMW mechanics all recommend the use of synthetic motor oil because of its ability to withstand humidity and high heat as well as thermal breakdown.

Once again, rely on the dashboard alert to judge when to change your synthetic oil and filter, but remember the big rule of thumb for synthetic is that a change of this type of oil should occur no later than 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

Being the Ultimate Driving Machine, it's only natural that your Wyoming Valley BMW 7 Series will be encouraging you to take the long way home, each and every day. But if that long way includes mountainous highways, heavy stop and go traffic or trips through dry desert regions, your 7 Series owner's manual will encourage you to change your synthetic oil and oil filter at the 5,000 mile mark, instead.

During your 10,000-mile synthetic oil service, BMW-certified mechanics at the Wyoming Valley service department will also perform a tire rotation, to allow them to wear evenly at different points on your 7 Series. They will also replace the coolant and check the integrity of the cooling system as needed.

The technicians will then perform an examination of the brake pads and rotors, steering system, key suspension components, and a topping off of fluids. Finally, your Wyoming Valley service advisor will check to insure there are no outstanding recalls or service campaign notices.

Regularly scheduled maintenance will occur through the 5,000- 10,000- and 15,000-mile services. Eventually, it will be time for the 20,000 mile service that, of course, will feature many of the same tasks, as seen at 10,000 miles, from oil change, to the tire rotation and so on. The Condition-Based Service (CBS) sensors and indicators will alert you to schedule your next service appointment, based on recent driving habits.

Next up is the 30,000-mile service which involves a synthetic oil and filter change, and once again, a tire rotation. It's also the perfect time to replace the brake fluid, and check the brake pads on your Wyoming Valley BMW 7 Series.

At this service we would also replace your fuel filter for a new unit to insure a constant, clean fuel flow. The 7 Series owner's manual, also details that the first brake fluid service should occur during this 30,000 mile service. Subsequent brake services should occur every 60,000 miles after that.

Talking about 60,000 miles: That's the point your BMW 7 Series is just getting broken-in. But scheduled services continue on. Your BMW service technician will change the fuel filters, engine air filter, cabin air filter, lubricate key parts of the suspension and steering system, rotate the tires, change the oil and oil filter and more. Finally on tap is a fluid top off, and a multi-point inspection that will also reset any maintenance alerts to factory default setting.

Additional Essentials:
An all-wheel-alignment is crucially important to your Wyoming Valley BMW 7 Series vehicle. But how will you know if your "7" needs one? Imagine this scenario: Driving down the interstate highway, and you discover your BMW wants to drift a little right or a little left, when you are steering straight ahead.

That's a pretty good clue that you are in need of an alignment. At BMW of Wyoming Valley, we suggest an alignment at least once a year, depending on where you drive because sometimes you just can't avoid that huge pothole or running over a piece of road debris that will be sure to throw your toe and camber out of alignment.

But first things first: Before you do that, recommend having your tires rotated first before an alignment service is performed. It equalizes the wear pattern which is different at each corner of the car. Your BMW 7 Series owner's manual will have more information.

Speaking of Tires: Bald tires on your BMW 7 Series will just never do. Think about it: With no grip, how are you going to get that BMW power to the pavement? Perhaps it's time for the Lincoln Penny test, and best of all nearly everyone can afford it. Place a crisp Lincoln head penny inside one of your tire's tread grooves. Ole' Abe was nothing if not honest.

Point it head-first into the groove of the tire tread. If "Honest Abe" sinks down to his ears or more, then you have plenty of tread. If you can see all of Lincoln's head, then change them immediately. As we have been known to say, "Bald belongs on eagles, most babies and some old men, but not your tires." Our BMW Parts department has the replacement tires your 7 Series needs, all at competitive market prices.

But wait! We're just getting started! What about Windshield Wipers? The red-headed step child of the automobile world, it's clear that windshield wipers get no respect. As disrespected as they are, they are still critical pieces of safety gear for your vehicle. That's why we recommend a change every six months.

They live in the elements, where the sun, heat and humidity can take a constant toll. The same in the cold of winter. While exposure to UV rays and high humidity will cause the blades to eventually deteriorate, the brittle cold can snap them like a chicken bone.

A quick stop at the BMW of Wyoming Valley Parts and Service department will have you fixed up with a new set of factory-approved replacements that will have your 7 Series windshield crystal clear in no time.
