BMW M. It's a legendary name that has its roots in BMW's Motorsport efforts from 1960s on to the 1970s. Now it refers to the high-performance division with its private tuning facility at the Nurburgring race track in Germany.

The BMW M6 is the high-performance version of the 6 Series Coupe/Convertible that has been the basis for many of BMW'ssuccessful racing platforms. Today it is one of BMW's most successful models and serves as a rolling exhibit of some of the best technology and performance that BMW has to offer.

But just because it is some of the latest and greatest doesn't mean that it does not need any care and maintenance. That's why BMW has compiled a service schedule detailing all the services required by your new M6 from BMW of Wyoming Valley. The scheduled services make sure that your Ultimate Driving Machine remains just that: The Ultimate Driving Machine.

The BMW M6 uses mileage intervals to determine the proper time to change critical components and fluids on your vehicle. Using BMW's Condition Based Service (CBS) system, it combines sensors with various algorithms to determine approximately when the oil and other components and fluids are nearing the end of their useful lives before needing to be changed. The system takes into consideration engine loads and rotations, the expected lifespan of certain components and fluids, and actual accumulated mileage. When the system determines that a specific part has become worn down or past its useful lifespan, it shows an alert to let you know it's time for a change.

Naturally, your Wyoming Valley BMW M6 Series is the kind of car that is going to encourage some "playfulness" in taking the long way home. But if that long way includes mountainous highways, heavy stop and go traffic or trips through dry desert regions, we encourage you to keep it up, but also have your synthetic oil and oil filter changed at the 5,000 mile mark, instead. In fact, the service mechanics at BMW of Wyoming Valley recommend the use of synthetic over conventional motor oil because of its ability to withstand high heat and thermal breakdown as well as the toughness from extreme cold in winter.

The CBS system will send an alert to you via your dashboard messaging panel, which will clue you to what is the next service that is required by your BMW of Wyoming Valley M6. Based on your driving style, the alert could appear as soon as 5,000 miles or as long as 10,000 miles. But a caution: Even though your oil may not need changing at 5,000 miles, your tires need to be rotated, your coolant refreshed, transmission fluids and other expendables may need tending to before that. It's for that reason that your BMW service mechanics recommend you visit our Wyoming Valley service department every 5,000 miles so we can examine your BMW M6 to guarantee it is operating in top form.

At your 10,000 mile synthetic oil service, the techs at BMW of Wyoming Valley will also perform a tire rotation, which evens out the wear by letting them run at all corners of your M6. Other critical checks are performed including one to check the integrity of the cooling system and replace coolant as needed. These expert BMW technicians will continue by checking the steering system, key suspension components, the brake pads and rotors, and a topping off of fluids. Finally, your Wyoming Valley service advisor will clear your vehicle of any outstanding recalls or service campaign notices.

Following earlier intermediate 5,000- 10,000- and 15,000-mile services, it will be time for the 20,000 mile service which repeats many of the same jobs completed at the 10,000-mile interval. From oil and filter change, to tire rotation and more, you can be certain your BMW service experts are doing everything to keep your M6 operating at peak performance.

At around 30,000 miles, the CBS system will alert you that it is once again time for a replacement of the synthetic oil, oil filter, and the "every 5,000-mile" tire rotation. The CBS system also keeps track of brake wear and will alert you that it's time for a brake fluid or brake pad change. Perhaps it's time for both. Regardless, the BMW M6 Owner's manual suggests changing the brake fluid at 30,000 miles initially and then every 60,000 miles thereafter. The BMW service schedule also suggests the 30,000-mile mark is the perfect time to replace the fuel filter to keep fuel flowing in a positive manner.

At 60,000 miles: That's when your M6 is just getting started. Still it's time for a filter change of both the engine and in-cabin air filter. The Fuel filter come next, followed by a manual inspection of key suspension and steering parts, a tire rotation, an oil and oil filter change and more. At the very end, the service mechanic will top off the fluids, perform a multi-point inspection and perform a reset back to factory default settings.

Other Essential Services:
All-wheel-alignment is not just one of the most critical "fixes" performed on your Wyoming Valley BMW M6 vehicle. It's also money well spent. But just how do you know you need such a service? Simple: If your BMW feels as though it is sliding right or left in your lane while you are trying to steer straight down the middle, that's a pretty good indicator there should be an alignment in your immediate future. At Wyoming Valley, our service experts suggest having at least one alignment per year, depending on the road conditions you may travel. But before you do that, may we suggest that you have your tires rotated first. It will help to equalize the tire wear pattern for each tire. Your BMW M6 owner's manual will have more information.

Speaking of Tires: Bald tires on your BMW M6 are the equivalent of dirty fingernails while wearing a tuxedo. With no grip, just how will all that M-power get to the ground? In both cases, you will be woefully underdressed. Maybe it's time for the Lincoln Penny test, and best of all nearly everyone can afford it. The test involves placing a Lincoln penny inside a tire's tread. Point "Honest Abe" head-first into the groove of the tire tread. If #16 (Lincoln was our 16th president) sinks down to his ears or more, then you have plenty of tread. If the tire lands with a little bit of air above his head, then change them immediately. As our popular saying goes, "Bald is for eagles, most babies and some old men, but not your tires." Our BMW Parts department has the replacement tires your M6 needs, all at competitive market prices.

But we're not quite finished yet! Have you noticed that cloudy residue being left by your Windshield Wipers? That's a sign your wipers are being neglected. We already know windshield wipers get no respect. But they are critical to the safety of you and your vehicle. That's why we recommend a change every six months.

Wipers survive (somewhat) in the elements, where humidity and high heat do their best to shorten the life of the blades. The same in the cold of winter where the brutal cold can snap them like a chicken bone. The Parts and Service department at the BMW of Wyoming Valley will have the right-sized factory-approved replacements that will have your M6 windshield gleaming.

Nobody can service your M6 the way the factory-trained pros at BMW of Wyoming Valley. Call for an appointment today. Our team of service experts are waiting to see you.
