The Condition-Based Service (CBS) indicators
will inform you to schedule your next service appointment, based on your
recent driving habits.
Between 20,000 and 40,000 miles, our
factory-trained service mechanics at Wyoming Valley BMW will suggest a
new fuel filter. Split the difference down the middle, at 30,000 if you
must, but please don't forget the all-critical oil and filter changes
that should occur at the same time.
The 30,000-mile service is
next, and in addition to a replacement of the synthetic oil, oil filter,
and a tire rotation, it's also the perfect time to replace the brake
fluid, and inspect the brake pads on your Wyoming Valley BMW 5 Series.
According to the 5 Series service instructions, the first brake fluid
service should occur at 30,000 miles. Subsequent brake services should
occur every 60,000 miles after that.
Speaking of 60,000 miles:
The 60,000 mile mark is the point in the life of your BMW 5 Series where
it is essentially just getting started. According to the BMW service
schedule, the service experts at will change the engine air filter, fuel
filters, cabin air filter, spark plugs, inspect and lubricate key
suspension parts and more, to make sure your BMW 5 Series performs like a
5 Series should. When they are finished with the servicing portion,
they will top off the fluids, perform a multi-point inspection and have
your 5 restored to its original factory specifications.
Other
services and examinations are called for from time to time and are
listed inside your BMW of Wyoming Valley 5 Series owner's manual. They
include servicing the fuel filters and fuel lines, examining the drive
axle boots, brake fluid levels, the cooling system operation, engine air
filter, the in-cabin air filter, a check for coolant leaks and then a
complete inspection of steering, suspension and exhaust components and
finally a reset of all maintenance and warning lights.

Additional Services:
An
all-wheel-alignment is what some consider to be one of the most
important "fixes" to be done to your Wyoming Valley BMW 5 Series
vehicle. Think of it like a "deep tissue massage" for your BMW 5. But
just how do you know if you need one?Â
If your 5 Series seemingly drifts
right or left (in a subtle, non-aggressive sort of way) while cruising
down the highway, with you behind the wheel, presumably steering it
straight, we would determine that's a clear and definite sign that you
are in need of an alignment.Â
We suggest having it performed at least
once a year, because, after all, we all manage to hit potholes, brush
curbs or rollover debris that has the ability to throw the alignment out
of adjustment. But before you do that, may we suggest that you have
your tires rotated first before an alignment service is performed, which
will help to equalize tire wear at all four corners. Your BMW 5 Series
owner's manual will have more information.
Speaking of Tires: If
your 5 Series tires have worn down, they are causing your car to operate
in the same fashion as if you were trying to play tennis with beat up,
run down shoes. Worn tires on your BMW 5 Series are useless if there is
no tread to properly grip the road.Â
There is a test you can perform once
a month that will help keep you informed as to the life of the
remaining tread. Best of all, it will only cost you a single penny!
Using a shiny penny, place our 16th President head-first into the groove
of the tire tread. If "Honest Abe" sinks down to his ears or more, then
you have plenty of tread.Â
If the tire lands with a little bit of air
above his head, then change them immediately. As we have become fond of
saying, Bald belongs on eagles, most babies and some old men, but not
your tires. Our BMW Parts department has the replacement tires your 5
Series needs, all at competitive market prices.
But wait, we're
not finished yet! What about those Windshield Wipers? Yes, what about
them? That's what we asked, too. It's clear that windshield wipers get
no respect because anywhere. But they are critical to your safety and
that of your vehicle.Â
That's why we recommend changing them every six
months. They live outside, in the elements, where heat and humidity can
get the best of them. The same with the cold of winter. While extreme
heat and exposure to UV rays will cause the blades to eventually
deteriorate, the brittle cold can snap them like a child's plaything.Â
A
quick stop at the BMW of Wyoming Valley Parts and Service department
will have you fixed up with a new set of factory-approved replacements
that will have your 5 Series windshield sparkling again.
