The maintenance schedules for your BMW 6 Series are divided into mileage increments. Using sensors and algorithms, the Condition Based Service (CBS) takes into account your driving style and driving conditions of the vehicle to determine when it is time to properly change the motor oil, for instance.Â
The system takes into consideration the normal lifespans of various components including fluids, filters and other crucial elements that are essential to the safe operation of your vehicle. When the system determines that a specific part has become worn down or past its useful lifespan, it shows an alert to let you know it's time for a change.

Motor Oil: Motor oils are probably the most important fluid, next to gasoline, inside your BMW 6 Series. If you are usingconventional motor oil you should make a concerted effort to change the oil and oil filter every 5,000 miles.
Still, the service technicians at BMW of Wyoming Valley recommend the use of synthetic motor oil because of its ability to withstand high heat and humidity as well as thermal breakdown. The big rule of thumb for synthetic is that a change of this type of oil should occur no later than 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.
Naturally, your Wyoming Valley BMW 6 Series will be encouraging you to take the long way home, each day, every day. But if thatlong way includes mountainous highways, heavy stop and go traffic or through dry desert regions, we encourage you to keep it up but also have your synthetic oil and oil filter changed at the 5,000 mile mark, instead.
At the same time of your 10,000 synthetic oil service, the techs at
the Wyoming Valley service department will also perform atire rotation,
which through the process of rotating them, will allow them to wear
evenly at different points on the vehicle.
They will also check the integrity of the cooling system and replace the old fluid with fresh coolant as needed. BMW technicians will continue by performing an examination of the steering system, the brake pads and rotors, key suspension components, and a topping off of fluids. Finally, your Wyoming Valley service advisor will check to insure there are no outstanding recalls or service campaign notices.

Following
the earlier 5,000- 10,000- and 15,000-mile services, it will,
naturally, be time for a 20,000 mile service that willfeature many of
the same tasks, as seen in the 10,000 mile version, from the oil change,
to the tire rotation and so on. The Condition-Based Service (CBS)
indicators will inform you to schedule your next service appointment,
based on your recent driving habits.
We would also call it an opportune time to change your fuel filter for a new unit to keep the fuel flowing unabated. According to the 6 Series owner's manual, the first brake fluid service should occur at 30,000 miles. Subsequent brake services should occur every 60,000 miles after that.

Speaking of 60,000 miles:
That's the time where your BMW 6 Series is just coming into its own. But
still, it has a scheduled service that's due. To that end, your service
technician will change the engine air filter, fuel filters, cabin air
filter, inspect and lube key suspension and steering parts, rotate the
tires, change the oil and oil filter and more. Finally is a fluid top
off, and a multi-point inspection that will also reset any maintenance
alerts to factory default setting.
Additional Essentials:

At Wyoming Valley, we
suggest having it performed at least once a year, depending on where you
drive because sometimes you just can't avoid that huge pothole or bump
or piece of road debris that will be sure to throw you out of alignment.
But before you do that, may we suggest that you have your tires rotated first before an alignment service is performed. It equalizes the wear pattern which is different at each corner of the car. Your BMW 6 Series owner's manual will have more information.

Speaking
of Tires: Nearly or completely bald tires on a BMW 6 series will never
do you any good. Think about it: With no grip, how are you going to get
that BMW power to the pavement? Perhaps it's time for the Lincoln Penny
test, and best of all nearly everyone can afford it.
Simply place a crisp Lincoln penny inside a tire's tread. Coincidentally, our 16th President works best. Point it head-first into the groove of the tire tread. If "Honest Abe" sinks down to his ears or more, then you have plenty of tread. If the tire lands with a little bit of air above his head, then change them immediately.
As we have become known to say, "Bald belongs on eagles, most babies and some old men, but not your tires." Our BMW Parts department has the replacement tires your 6 Series needs, all at competitive market prices.

But
wait, we're not finished yet! What about those Windshield Wipers? It's
clear that windshield wipers get no respect. But they are critical
pieces of safety gear for your vehicle. That's why we recommend a change
every six months. They live in the elements, where heat and humidity
can take a constant toll. The same in the cold of winter.
While exposure to UV rays and high humidity will cause the blades to eventually deteriorate, the brittle cold can snap them like a chicken bone. A quick stop at the BMW of Wyoming Valley Parts and Service department will have you fixed up with a new set of factory-approved replacements that will have your 6 Series windshield gleaming.
